Michael Bartone Memorial Foundation

Throughout the past 15 years the foundation has raised over $550,000 by combining successful golf, dinner and Rugby events.  To date over $50,000 has been gifted toward scholarships and over $500.000 gifted to the ALS Association.

As mentioned, in addition to a donation to the ALS Association made in Michael's name, a yearly scholarship is awarded to a local high school senior that is planning on attending the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology.

About Michael Bartone

Michael Bartone lost his life in March 2002, during his battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.  ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease, affects 5600 new Americans every uyear.  It is estimated that as many as 30,000 Americans have the disease at any give time.

Michael graduated from Downingtown High School in 1981.  Throughout his school years he excelled at football, little league baseball and wrestling.  He was an active boxing enthusiast as well.  During his senior year in high school, he served as co-captain of the football team.  After graduation, he attended Thaddeus Stevens University where he graduated with a degree in carpentry.

His love of sports continued after graduation as Michael helped to lead championship winning flag football and Rugby teams.  His association with Brandywine Rugby Football Club held special meaning for him.  Each year the Scrum for #6 holds special meaning for both mates & foes that shared the pitch with him during his playing days, with many of them returning for the event.  Perhaps more inspirational is the dedication of the young players who never knew Mike, but join his battle nonetheless.
